Reliance Jio's "Make in India" vision is to reduce India's dependence on foreign companies to supply network implementation equipment. The company has already created an end-to-end 5G stack that includes 5G radios and core network solutions.
Reliance Jio is the number one telecom operator in India simply because of its foresight and incredible execution of its plans.
The telecom company has revolutionized the way people connect in India by incorporating the world's most affordable 4G plans and providing PAN-India network coverage in no time. Now Jio is looking to do the same with 5G in India. But this time Jio will take it one step further and not rely on foreign companies for network equipment.
To implement 4G networks, Reliance Jio has received a lot of help from Samsung. However, with 5G, Jio expressed a desire to develop indigenous products and manufacture them all within the country's borders to make India "self-sufficient".
Reliance Jio will build 5G equipment in India with a global tech giant
Reliance Jio's vision is to reduce India's dependence on foreign companies to supply network implementation equipment. The company has already created an end-to-end 5G stack that includes 5G radios and core network solutions.
A few days ago, news came that Jio is working with one of its investors, namely Qualcomm, to produce 5G equipment locally in India. Qualcomm has all the experience a company can have in equipment manufacturing. As an investor in Jio platforms, the company will help Jio with local manufacturing of 5G equipment.
With this move, Jio will save a ton on equipment costs because production alone will allow the company to benefit from economies of scale. In addition, the company can control the production according to its request.
In addition to that, Jio is also expected to produce solutions and equipment for other operators within the country and outside of India. This will make India import a little less and export more.
For the uninitiated, Reliance Jio had previously partnered with Qualcomm to develop and test virtualized RAN (vRAN) with 5G solutions based on an architecture that supports open and interoperable interfaces. Both companies were able to reach a milestone by reaching over 1Gbps of speed on the Jio 5GNR solution.
Reliance Jio 5G network reliability test
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has assigned a spectrum dedicated to telecommunications to carry out their tests on 5G. For testing, Reliance Jio opted for help from Samsung, which has already had a long relationship with the company in the past.
The company is expected to announce more about its Reliance jio 5G plans later this month at RIL's AGM.
