In July 2021, BSNL delivered a letter of intent to five selected bidders who would use Indian core technology to help telecoms roll out 4G and possibly 5G networks in the future. Out of them, the only companies left in the mix include the Center for Telematics Development (C-DoT), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Tejas Networks.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is currently struggling to roll out 4G networks. At the time, it was rumored that non-autonomous 5G networks (NSAs) of the state-owned telecommunications company could arrive by the end of 2022.
Furthermore, by 2023, BSNL could also launch standalone 5G networks (SA). If you're thinking BSNL is going straight to 5G and skipping 4G, well that's not happening. Telco's main goal remains to roll out 4G networks in India as soon as possible and then switch to 5G.
Now the Indian companies likely to be part of BSNL's 4G network unit are almost confirmed.
BSNL 4G networks that may be implemented by these companies
In July 2021, BSNL delivered a letter of intent to five selected bidders who would use Indian core technology to help telecom's roll out 4G and possibly 5G networks in the future. But now, according to a report by ET Telecom, several companies have pulled out of the process after failing to integrate the partners providing the core network technology. The state-owned telecommunications company will further cancel the Rs.5crore security deposit that each of them has provided.
The only companies left in the mix include the Center for Telematics Development (C-DoT), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Tejas Networks. Therefore, it is highly likely that these companies will roll out India's first indigenous 4G network for BSNL.
Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DoT and chairman of the board, said 'the implementation of the 4G network would help the company (BSNL) move quickly to 5G. Upadhyay said India could see BSNL's first 5G NSA network by the end of 2022 and 5G SA network by 2023. If that's true, that's great news for BSNL fans because that would mean the telecommunications company will not come so late with 5G as 4G'.
