Finally Domestic Social platform Telegram has announced the latest version of Telegram group video call app on iOS, Android and desktop, users of the encrypted messaging application will be able to turn their group voice chats into video calls.
Messaging services have become increasingly useful these days, with users choosing to connect with loved ones through these platforms rather than meeting offline, due to the pandemic.
For this reason, Telegram, Signal, and WhatsApp, the top three messaging platforms, have gained more users since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To meet the demand, all have added new features, be it privacy, design or just functionality. This includes video conferencing, a must-have feature on all of these platforms, as audio-only calls are fading in favor of much more modern and useful video calling.
Telegram announced that with the latest version of the application on iOS, Android and desktop, users of the encrypted messaging application will be able to turn their group voice chats into video calls.
With this, users will have the ability to pin a user's video feed to the screen so that they are in the foreground and focused, even as new participants join the call. Users will also be able to share their screen if they need to show something or share documents.
Users will also have the ability to share the camera feed and screen simultaneously, according to Engadget.
What does the Telegram group video call option include?
Through the new version, group video calls will be limited to the first 30 people who join the voice chat, but Telegram said it will increase this number soon, with plans to expand voice chats to support live events and others. Such new feature will be available on smartphones, tablets and computers.
This comes after messaging CEO Pavel Durov announced via a message on his official Telegram channel that "Telegram would add a video dimension to its voice chats in May that would convert Telegram into a powerful platform for video call groups".
In April 2020, a blog post published to celebrate the 400 million users who joined Telegram said that the global block had highlighted the need for a reliable video communication tool like messaging in 2013. Mention was also made of it, security of group video calls, which may explain the delay in starting the feature.
In case you missed it, the company had reached 400 million active users in April 2020, a decent increase from the first 200 million seen in 2018.
