Twitter under update policy stated that its new verification policies of user profile will take effect on January 20, 2021, and two new account types will be created.
A couple of weeks ago, Twitter announced that it would resume the profile verification process with new updated policies. In this regard, the social media giant stated that its new profile verification policies will be implemented with effect from 20th January, 2021.
For the uninitiated, Twitter has conducted a poll asking people how they think it should be the profile verification policy. More than 22,000 responses were sent to the company and Twitter said it helped them improve their verification process policy. Read on to see which areas of the Twitter profile verification policy are updated based on survey responses.
New verification policy for Twitter users
Twitter will focus on the policy areas where Twitter has made changes. The first change Twitter makes to the verification policy is that a profile can be defined as complete without any bio or header images. Secondly, Twitter has updated its references with Wikipedia so that the standards of reputation and quality of the articles are high.
The third change is that the "News" category will now also include "News and Journalists" followed by the "Sports" category, which will also include "Sports and e-sports". The company has also added a benchmark in its "Entertainment" category to bolster the inclusion of digital content creators in the category. Twitter has also changed its search policy of a minimum number of followers from a "by country" to a "by region" basis.
Followed by the implementation of these new changes on January 20, 2021, the microblogging platform will also seek to include religious leaders, scientists and academics in the profile verification categories next year.
Twitter will remove verification badges from existing verified accounts
With the implementation of these new policies, many verified accounts may soon lose their verification credentials. All incomplete and inactive accounts will lose the blue mark. A full Twitter account under the new verification criteria would mean an account with a verified email address or phone number, display name, and profile picture.
But verified users needn't worry. Prior to the removal of the verification badge, Twitter will send a notification about it for changes to be made to the profile. If the user completes their profile details in time, the verification status will remain.
As for people who are no longer alive, Twitter will verify your account with a "Memorial" badge as a reminder. You plan to add two new account types, namely "Automated Accounts" to identify bot accounts and "Memorial Accounts" to identify deceased people's accounts.
