Private Telecommunications India Bharati Airtel improved 4g network with Ultra-Fast 4G services on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Bharti Airtel announced the launch of its "Ultra-Fast 4G" services on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The development follows in the footsteps of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated submarine fiber optic cable connectivity between Chennai and the Andman and Nicobar Islands (CANI project).
The submarine fiber optic cable (OFC) that connects Chennai and Port Blair is said to offer 2x 200 Gbps between the two cities. Additionally, the project is said to provide 2 × 100 Gbps between Port Blair and other islands. In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said 4G mobile services in the islands will see a "major improvement" following the inauguration of the CANI project. It should be noted that Airtel in January 2019 said it had launched 4G services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. However, the CANI project allows Airtel to offer improved speeds to its 4G users on the islands.

Airtel said that it became the "first mobile operator" to launch "Ultra-Fast 4G" services on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
"The new fiber link marks an important milestone in India's digital transformation journey as this critical infrastructure reaches the strategic archipelago," Sunil Bharti Mittal, president of Bharti Airtel, said in a statement. "We are grateful to the Honorable Prime Minister for taking the time to launch this key digital infrastructure."
The company said in the statement that "blazing speeds" on Airtel's 4G network will provide a "world-class digital experience" to users in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
"The fiber link will be a game changer for the region and unlock the true potential of 4G and even 5G in the future for customers," Mittal said. “Airtel remains fully committed to the Government's vision of Digital India. We hope that the Department of Telecommunications accelerates the deployment of USOF to build the aforementioned backbone infrastructure to complement the efforts of telecom operators to bridge the digital divide.
Mobile operators renew mobile services in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Airtel is said to have been present in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands since 2005 and the company noted that it was "the first private operator to launch mobile services" in the region.
"Airtel with today's launch of 'Ultra-fast 4G' services hopes to further strengthen its bond with customers on the islands," the company said in a statement.
It should be noted that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has also announced a renewal of its mobile plans on the Andman and Nicobar Islands. The state-owned operator said the data benefits in some plans have increased up to eight times.
However, as of press time, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea have not announced any renewal of mobile plans in Andaman and Nicobar.
