Private Telecommunications in India vodafone idea limited has finally launched the eSIM service in India. A few weeks ago, telecom tariff India reported the launch of the same eSIM service for Apple Watches with LTE and now the same has been released for Apple iPhones.
In a press release, Vodafone Idea said that the service would also be available soon for certain Samsung phones. Although the eSIM on Vodafone Idea is already available, it is limited to the RED range of postpaid plans in only three telecom circles: Mumbai, Delhi and Gujarat.
So if you are someone residing outside of these three circles, you will have to wait a while before Vodafone Idea starts the service. Read on for supported phones and how to set up Vodafone Idea eSIM service.
The service will soon be available on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold, in addition to the confirmed vodafone idea postpaid plans. The service is currently available in select circles in Mumbai, Delhi and Gujarat, as mentioned above.
As for the details of the service, Vodafone postpaid customers who use eSIM compatible phones will no longer have to insert a physical SIM card to access the network.
For the uninitiated, eSIM comes in the form of an integrated SIM chip that will be compatible with all supported mobile network operators. The consumer will be able to make normal calls, SMS, data access and more without having to manually change the physical SIM cards.

How to activate eSIM on your mobile phone?
- Existing Vodafone Idea postpaid customers with a compatible phone can send message to 199 vodafone idea ussd codes
- SMS by typing "eSIM(space)e-mail ID" (if there is no e-mail ID registered with your mobile number, send "e-mail ID" SMS to 199.
- If your email is valid, you will receive an SMS from 199. You must confirm with ESIMY to confirm the eSIM request.
- Publish your confirmation SMS, you will receive another 199 SMS asking you to consent to a call.
- After consenting to the call, an email with a QR code will be sent to the registered email ID.
- Scan the QR code:
- Apple device: Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Move to "Settings" > Choose "Mobile data"> Click "Add data plan"
- Now "Scan QR code" received by mail.
- Follow the instructions on the phone.
New Vodafone Idea customers can visit the nearest Vodafone store with proof of identity and photos to get a new Vodafone eSIM connection. Preferred if you transport the phone so that the QR code generated during the activation process can be scanned immediately
The QR code sent by email will be useful only for a single scan and the eSIM will activate correctly within 2 hours of scanning the code
