Telecommunications Companies have informed the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) about the sites to perform the Proof of Concept test (POC) of the new KYC process that does not come from Aadhaar.
Each operator will execute the process at two points, based on a DoT notification.
The November 6 notification said that Bharti Airtel would execute the trial in Delhi and Meerut, while Reliance Jio listed two sites in Mumbai. Vodafone Idea, the newly merged entity would carry out the exercise in Delhi and Baramati in Maharastra.
Another private telecom Tata Teleservices has listed two sites in Haryana for the Proof of Concept process.
Among the public sector companies, BSNL would have carried out the process at two sites in Telangana, while MTNL included Mumbai and Delhi for this PoC.
"Based on the results of the POC, further instructions will be published on any process changes, if any on the topic," said the notification.
In accordance with the alternative digital KYC process proposed by the telecommunications industry, the customer request form (CAF) will be integrated with a live photograph of the subscriber together with the original identity proof (POI) and the address test document (POA), digitizing the end-to-end process in this way, he said.
According to the department, the whole process will only be used through authenticated applications hosted by licensees.
DoT also stated that "only one licensee must provide two mobile connections a day for each POI / POA document to a customer." The proposed process would be applicable to each connection, he added.
The DoT had asked Telecommunications Companies to be ready with the alternative KYC trial immediately in line with the Supreme Court verdict of September 26, in which the lower court did not allow private entities to own the details of Aadhaar of the their customers.
