Government of India made mandatory and passed instructions to all the telecom operators to link the 12 digit Unique Identity Number or UID with Mobile Number.
The Department of Telecom (DoT) has decided to ease the service to Mobile users introduced One Time Password (OTP) process to link Aadhaar card number with mobile connection. All the telecom operators have welcomed the decision of linking UID with Registered Mobile Number to avoid or remove Fake Mobile connections for security reasons.
As per latest information, DoT has introduced three methods to link the UID with mobile number and passed guidelines to Telecom service providers to push the messages to its mobile users to link their Aadhaar number with Mobile number.
Mobile users through these three options can link their mobile number with Aadhaar number:
The above methods will help mobile subscribers to get linked mobile connection to Aadhaar without visiting the stores of the telecom companies, the Department of Telecom said in a statement on 25th October, 2017. DoT also recommended to Telecos to make necessary for senior Citizens and the People with disability and chronic illness for the re-verification at subscribers doorstep.
Online Verification: Operators have been asked to put in place an Online mechanism (through Website and other sources) for people to request for such services.
OTP (One Time Password), SMS, IVRS, App service: For re-verification of existing mobile connection with Aadhaar number OTP based service may be provided and enable customers to ease the process via SMS or IVRS or on mobile app. Visiting nearest Customer service centers customer can link mobile number carrying Aadhaar card to verify with OTP received on registered mobile number via SMS with Finger print scanner i.e Biometric authentication for SIM. Mobile user need to support Customer service center staff providing KYC details to update their details to the earlier application submitted.
Door Step Verification: Telecom operators has got clear instructions from DoT to provide or facilitate re-verification process at customer Doorstep for those Physically challenged, Senior Citizens, Chronic illness.
The government fixed deadline to link Aadhar with Mobile connection (SIM card) / Registered
Mobile Number is 6th February, 2018.
Linking Aadhaar card with Bank accounts deadline is 31st December, 2017.
Linking Aadhaar card with PAN card deadline is extended upto 31st March, 2017.
