The Adani Group made its surprise entry into the Indian telecommunications sector by participating in the spectrum auctions of 2022. In the early announcement of the Adani Group's entry, many anticipated a move like Jio's. But Adani Data Networks has made it clear that it doesn't want to get into the consumer business and will only focus on the B2B side of things.
A few days ago Adani Data Networks, the subsidiary of the Adani Group which will handle the telecommunications business, received the full telecommunications license. Adani Data Networks is now Unified Licensed (UL) to offer telecommunications services.
But the company plans to focus on corporate offerings. The Adani Group already has many airports, data centers and more in its portfolio. 5G radio waves purchased in recent spectrum auctions could focus on improving their companies' connectivity services and then offer the same services to other companies as well.
It is best for the Adani Group to stay away from Jio and Airtel in the consumer sector with 5G for now. This is due to multiple reasons. One is the established brands enjoyed by all existing telecommunications companies. Another reason, immediately 5G may show its performance and huge responsive growth.. Therefore, investing a lot of money in it would mean waiting for the returns for a long time. This would not have been right for the company in the long run.
Jio and Airtel need not worry about direct competition from the Adani Group in both the consumer and business sectors. From a business point of view, the Adani Group is far behind the telcos in terms of products and services offered.
