Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) took the new telecom entrant Jio throne when it comes to adding wired broadband connections in July 2021.
For the uninitiated, according to monthly data released by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority India (TRAI) by June 2021 , Reliance Jio had added the largest number of fixed broadband subscribers in India.
But in July 2021, Jio's throne was overtaken by BSNL, which is a very positive sign for the telco. BSNL's Bharat Fiber service is one of the best in India and offers users broadband plans at a very competitive price.
BSNL added 0.50 million subscribers to wired broadband
BSNL added 5,06,674 subscribers (0.50 million) in July 2021. The second position was occupied by Jio, who added 2,59,975 subscribers (0.25 million) in the same month. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea added 1,25,640 (0.12 million) and 11,340 (0.011 million) subscribers in July 2021.
Note that we are talking about fixed broadband subscribers and not wireless subscribers. This is a positive sign for BSNL as it is showing its position in the Indian market when it comes to offering broadband services.
While BSNL doesn't offer the most exaggerated benefits (OTTs) and other perks, the fact that it added the most landline subscribers in July 2021 is a great sign.
BSNL's Bharat Fiber plans start at a monthly price of Rs 449 and offer speeds of up to 30 Mbps. The Internet Service Provider (ISP) offers plans with internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps which also include an over-the-top free subscription (OTT) by Disney + Hotstar Premium. Compared to July 2021, BSNL had lost 1,93,177 (0.19 million) subscribers in June 2021.
So this is a big return from BSNL and the telecom company would definitely want the boost to be its own way. It is interesting to see BSNL overtake Jio with such comfort.
