More than thousands of BSNL Landlines services are in dead condition in Kullu Manali villages, because of theft cased noticed so many times. So BSNL has no cable to lay down for to continue Landline services more due to cable theft.
More than 25000 connections present few years ago but now only exist around 15,200 customers, and 10,000 got the connections terminated.
Officials at BSNL blamed the cable thefts for a drop the number of subscribers, saying cables valued over Rs 1 crore were stolen in five years.
To regain the loss of over 40% customers in Kullu Manali and being the only Landline provider, BSNL has now planned to bring in hi-speed wireless broadband services in the state (WiMax).
Kullu Manali Telecom district manager Harish Chand said, "The thefts have spoilt the infrastructure. We are offering the existing customers Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) phones, but customers seek broadband connectivity. For this, WiMax seems better, the services would be made available before December 31."
